Covid-19: A Divine Appointment?

“…always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you…”
1 Peter 3:15 ESV

The world has come face to face with the fragility of life. Many are scared. Many confused. Microscopic bacteria is bringing entire nations to their knees. The feeling of being out of control has many people reaching heightened levels of panic. The idols are failing us. Money, headed for recession. Entertainment, everything’s closed, even the bars. Prideful nationalism, America can’t even defend herself against a measly virus. The list goes on. A great many people are bewildered and looking for hope anywhere they can find it. Do you see it yet?

Our knee jerk reaction is to say Coronavirus is the work of Satan. I’m sure he has something to do with it. But don’t give him too much credit. Remember, God APPOINTED the fish that swallowed Jonah. Various times throughout the Old Testament God sent and allowed certain calamities so His glory would be seen. The cross, the darkest moment in history, was appointed by God for the display of His glory. I believe Covid-19 is a divine appointment, not just an unfortunate event. Look around you. As Christians we should take precautions and be smart. Absolutely! But DO NOT FEAR! The fields are ripe for harvest. People will be searching for answers. They will be asking how we can be so certain, how we can have such hope. History may remember this pandemic as the time the 21st century revival began. If we truly believe in the absolute sovereignty of God we will not just see a pandemic, but perhaps the greatest opportunity for the Gospel to spread in our lifetimes. Are you ready to share the reason for the hope that is in you?
